Hiking, Skiing and Fishing in the Catskill Preserve

Outdoor Recreation for All Seasons

With more than 286,000 acres of state land set that is designated as "forever wild", by the state constitution, the Catskill Preserve is something you should take the time to explore. Excellent locations for mountain biking can be found near Colgate Lake as well as in the Indian Head Wilderness and Hunter – West Kill Wilderness areas.

In areas that are marked as Wild Forests, some vehicular traffic is allowed. The wider roads in these areas are ideal for horseback riding, cross-country skiing and snowmobiling. Areas that are marked for Intensive Use are where you'll find campgrounds, picnic areas, and swimming areas. You can learn more about the Catskill Preserve by visiting the website for the Department of Environmental Conservation.
